Helion Energy is pleased to announce the publication of US Patent 9,082,516, “Apparatus, systems and methods for fusion based power generation and engine thrust generation”.
Helion’s chief scientist, Dr. John Slough has pioneered fusion using inductively driven metallic liners. In this patent, which Helion has exclusive license to, metal liners are inductively accelerated to high velocity and used to compress a fusion plasma to fusion conditions for use in power plants or rocket applications. By using a disposable imploding metal liner, magnetic fields large enough to generate fusion energy can be created and the reactor can be protected from the reaction itself.
Previous work by John and his team demonstrated liner compression and magnetic field generation of much greater than 150 Tesla.
